My Hair Tips
Hello friends! I wanted to share just a few of my hair tips and tricks with ya'll. I have been a cosmetologist since 2003, and I wanted share some knowledge that I know will help others get the best hair they can.
1. Give Your Hair A Cocktail
Now what I mean by that is to mix up what your hair “needs”. You cannot keep using the same shampoo or conditioner all the time, and I’ll explain why. So when your hair feels dry these are the days you would use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner product, but if you use that product every day your hair can become too soft and weighted down. When your hair is showing breakage you would use a strengthening shampoo and conditioner, but if used too much your hair actually gets more dry and can break- this is due to too much keratin. #truefact-keratin can make your hair so strong that it starts to feel hard and brittle. So mix it up! Give your hair different nutrients it needs, by mixing up your products every two days or so.
My favorite shampoos and conditioners I currently use:
KENRA Platinum (this smells and feels amazing, great for fragile hair)

My favorite shampoos and conditioners I currently use:
KENRA Platinum (this smells and feels amazing, great for fragile hair)
Strong Sexy Hair (smells citrus-y, great for all over strength)
Bed Head (smells sweet and fruity, great for moisture and over all health)
2. Always Use A Leave-in Conditioner
I can’t say this enough please please use a leave in conditioner every time you wash your hair and before you brush it. Your hair will thank you! This ensures extra strength, moisture, less frizz, and protect it from styling.
My favorite leave-ins I currently use:
Joico K-Pak Luster Lock (full of moisture, combats frizz, giving a silky smooth feel)
Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave-in (this is the lightest of the three, this is packed with what your hair needs for strength, and doesn't weigh down my hair at all)
Healthy Sexy Hair Soya Want It All (this is gives a little more moisture along with strength)
Its A 10 (this is a great overall leave in for all hair types, I find if your hair is fine-get the lite version of this, but It's a 10 offers different versions depending on what you hair needs)
3. Use A Brush Or Comb Designed For Wet Hair
I shiver every time I would see my mom pull out her every day brush to brush her wet hair. This should be a sin!! #truefact- when your hair is wet it stretches over a third it’s natural length, so this can lead to more stretching, more pulling, and yes more breakage. The reason your hair “bounces” or holds curl is due to elasticity. Now not everyone’s hair can hold a curl and that’s just because of how naturally straight it is- not because of poor elasticity. The more you pull and yank on your hair the more you’ll start to break down that elasticity, not to mention when you use a blow dryer, straightener or curling iron on it every day. So please use a wide tooth comb or appropriate wet hairbrush.
My favorite brush I use:
The Wet Brush Pro (these come in a variety of sizes and shapes depending on hair thickness, they also have one specifically for drying)
4. Air Dry Your Hair When You Can
Unless you are born with beautiful straight hair, air drying isn't always an option. But here are some easy tips that work for me, and may work for you. After your hair is about 50 percent dry divide your hair into two simple braids, but the key is to do this loosely otherwise you'll get a poodle effect with no volume on top.
You can also take flat clips and place them how you want your hair to dry. This is also great for "next day" hair, by just lightly misting your hair with water and your favorite texturing spray.
Another option is wait until your hair is 80 percent dry, and then set your hair in velcro rollers, lightly spray with some hair spray an then let dry. If you are just slumming it around the house- then simply just clip it up or put it in a quick chignon to skip the blow dryer. 5. Get You Hair Cut RegularlyYour hair will actually grow longer by doing this. When you slack on getting your hair trimmed you are just allowing for more split ends and breakage to develop-which just looks bad! Say bye bye to thin frayed ends, and get your hair trimmed every 6-10 weeks. Other tips and tricks:*Favorite trick for curled locks-Take your hair into a high ponytail right on top of your head, then split into four sections. Take a curling iron and curl each section in different directions, pinning them down as you go along. Let the curls sit for five mins, pull out the ponytail and voila!*Get some fun texture by braiding your hair in several braids (the thicker your hair the more braids you should add) and then run run an straightening iron over the braids to press heat into the braids. Let your hair cool then release the braids-the result is instant waves.*Take the time to figure out your hair type and texture. Is it thin, straight, wavy, frizzy? These answers with help you figure out which product are right for you.*There
are natural options for your hair as well. Try mixing mayo, raw eggs,
and beer together for dry hair. Or try mixing 2 tbs of apple cider
vinegar (or fresh lemon) and 2 tablespoons of water for an oily or flaky
scalp. Leave these treatments on for 20 mins rinse with cool water, and
shampoo as normal. *Use coconut oil to tame down fly-a-ways, or use it
for a weekly easy-at-home hair treatment by leaving on for 30 mins, rinse, and shampoo as normal.
