Welcome!

Image
Hello friends and welcome! My name is Mandy, wife to my favorite other half Clayton & step mama to my 8 yr old kiddo. I'm originally from MD, but now live in beautiful San Antonio, TX. I like cleaning, decorating, movies, singing, diy-ing, scrolling IG and Amazon all while sipping coffee till its wine time. I've been a cosmetologist since 03' and find joy in making others feel beautiful. Im a bit of a homebody, but can strike a convo with anyone. I believe there's so much joy in the little things, and that everyday should be celebrated! I'm so glad you are here, let the inspiration, friendships, and laughter begin.

Staying Positive?

Yes I am normally a cheerful and optimistic person...annoyingly so...If been told, more than once!!  So, what about "staying positive" during Covid-19? What about moods? We can expect to have periods of low mood in the present of these circumstances. Or really in any circumstances. But: I'm not taking low mood too much to heart. It's just "weather". Internal weather. When its grey and drizzly outside. I don't expect to control that. Really, how crazy would it be to think that I can control the weather? So I don't take it too much to heart. I wait until its sunny again....and perhaps I can even appreciate the rain while it's happening, noticing that the robins are singing ecstatically. And when its "internal weather": I'm in a low mood? Nope, I don't have to control that either. It's OK not to be Miss Pollyanna all the time. It's OK to be quite and subdued. It's OK to be a little anxious, or a little fearful (...

My Hair Tips

Image
Hello friends! I wanted to share just a few of my hair tips and tricks with ya'll. I have been a cosmetologist since 2003, and I wanted share some knowledge that I know will help others get the best hair they can. 1. Give Your Hair A Cocktail  Now what I mean by that is to mix up what your hair “needs”. You cannot keep using the same shampoo or conditioner all the time, and I’ll explain why. So when your hair feels dry these are the days you would use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner product, but if you use that product every day your hair can become too soft and weighted down. When your hair is showing breakage you would use a strengthening shampoo and conditioner, but if used too much your hair actually gets more dry and can break- this is due to too much keratin. #truefact-keratin can make your hair so strong that it starts to feel hard and brittle. So mix it up! Give your hair different nutrients it needs, by mixing up your products every two days or so. My favorit...

Step Parenting

If you have read my bio, you know that I am a step parent to my fiances daughter Mila. She is now 7 years old...but what some of you may not know is my ex (who I dated for 4 years) had two little girls. They were 6 and 9 when we first met, and when him and I broke up they were 10 and 13. I loved them both like they were my old children, even though they were not biological. Learning the "role" of the step parent takes time, and it's NOT easy. Being a step parent is a very challenging job and often goes unnoticed. First I have learned that the children must come first. Their feelings in this role are crucial. They will need guidance and direction, and in some ways the child might learn to favor one house to the other....but you never want them to feel that they need to pick a side. Parents also should never bad mouth the other. Even if your divorce ended badly, you do not want to influence the child/children to hate the other parent or even the step parent. Childr...

Avoiding those late night snacks

Image
I am sooo guilty of this!! We all are ... I mean who doesn't want cookies and milk after dinner??  Well that late night snacking just added unnecessary calories to your diet and can lead to weight gain. Eating late at night means you're consuming calories at a time when your body is unlikely able to burn them off before bed.  Now I do remember watching an old episode on The Tyra show back in the day (I loved that show lol) and I believe it was a doctor who said if you are going to eat late, you HAVE to give yourself at least two hours for the food to digest before you head to bed.  That might be true, but I do have some ideas to avoid eating in the first place, and to re think about what and you are eating and why you are choosing to eat late at night. Discovering Why~ Is it the taste of the foods that you are craving? Are you finding yourself still hungry at the end of the day? Are you bored and looking for an activity that you enjoy?...

Ideas on what to eat before a workout

Hello everyone! You probably know that fueling your body properly can help you take your workouts to the next level. After all, if you go too long without eating, you can feel tired and sluggish, but with properly timed meals and snacks you can give your body the energy it needs to perform at its best. Here's how to create the perfect pre-workout snack (along with some of my ideas).   Hydrate: Drink 1-2 cups of water within 1-2 hours before you work out.  Eat: If you feel hungry before the gym, or tend to feel sluggish during a workout eating a small snack can help. I would stick to something small, about 100-200 calories, with 3-5 grams of protein and eat it within 30-60 minutes before your workout. This combo will digest quickly and give you an energy boost.  Just as some people can exercise on an empty stomach in the morning and others feel sick doing so, timing your pre-workout snacks and choosing what to eat is not the same for everyone. After doing som...

How to clean your kitchen

The kitchen is one of those spaces where the cleaning battle never seems to end especially if you have some kiddos running around. There is one thing that makes the process a little more manageable: adopting a kitchen cleaning plan. If You Have 15 Minutes... Hide what you can. Throw dirty dishes in the dishwasher (that's what it's for anyways). Use the pantry to store cabinet overflow and random bags of snack foods that were out on the counter. This is the time you may want to invest in a junk drawer. Every household should have one in their kitchen-this could be for pens, pencils, screwdriver (heck any tool for that matter), note pads, tape, food clips, etc. Wipe down surfaces.  A sparkling countertop completes the whole room. If You Have 1 Hour... Rearrange your kitchen drawers.  It takes minutes to round up duplicate tools. Test them all, keep the one that works best, then donate or toss the rest. Ex...

Teami 30 day tea detox...yes I tried it!

Image
Yes I have tried Teami and I just HAD to share with you all! It all started with one celebrity sharing Teami on Instagram, so of course I decided to check it out. I subscribed to Teami Blends via YouTube and what they said sounded promising, and the quality of their tea looked amazing. I went to Amazon since the price for the Teami 30 day Detox Tea Kit was cheaper than Teami's actual website. It was still sold by Teami Blends and fulfilled by Amazon. After my purchase and once I received the kit, two representatives at Teami reached out to me to make sure I received everything, and to give me extra tips, and answer any questions I had. That was so helpful, and nice of them. Any questions I had-they replied back within the SAME DAY!  Subscribe to Teami Blends and get all the know-hows in this link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2OgettFF219dNR3s5Vv2Zg Here is the purchase link, and image: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071Z1VS...
